What is Kai Chi Do?

Kai Chi Do is a movement meditation.  It can be practiced by anyone, and can be adapted for any level of fitness.  It is a system of movements, combined with music and breathwork. The goal of Kai Chi Do is to experience the feeling of connection – to yourself, to others, and to Life.

There are 5 stages to the process; we call them the 5 elements of Kai Chi Do. These elements are: root, air, fire, water, and earth.

The purpose of the root element is to gently bring you into the present moment, releasing attitudes about the past and the future, in order to make a spiritual connection with the Source of who we are.   Root uses a set of positions called The Depths to come into balance and equilibrium.

In air element we introduce the 8 basic movements of Kai Chi Do to summon life energy.  Air is the breath of life. We can literally open to inspiration, and integrate the inner and outer worlds.  Thich Nhat Hanh said, “Breath is the bridge that connects life to consciousness, which unites your body to your thoughts.”

After making a connection and beginning to pull in life energy during root and air, we move into fire element.  Fire element is aerobic, and facilitates increased circulation of life energy – physically and spiritually.

The increased pace and intensity of fire element challenges you to just let go of mental resistance and come into an open spacious awareness – which brings you to the water element, allowing the flow.

The 5th element of Kai Chi Do is earth, where we have the opportunity to create community, bringing heaven to earth. We are citizens of a world that does not yet exist.  But we glimpse it.  We hold the vision and at those sacred times that we feel it, we are manifesting it.  We are bringing it into reality.

We invite you to join us.
